The Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Mariners meet in game one of a three game set from Safeco Field in MLB action on Friday.

The Kansas City Royals will look to find some consistency after splitting their last six games, including a 5-4 win over Milwaukee on Wednesday to salvage a series split. Adalberto Mondesi led KC with two RBIs, while Mike Moustakas added a solo home run. Whit Merrifield and Lucas Duda each added an RBI to round the scoring for the Royals in the winning effort. Salvador Perez, Alex Gordon and Alcides Escobar each chipped in a base hit as well to round out Kansas City’s offense in the win. Danny Duffy got the win to improve to 4-7 this season after giving up one run on five hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Wily Peralta picked up his 2nd save of the season by closing out the 9th. Ian Kennedy will start game one and is 1-7 with a 5.09 ERA and 80 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kennedy is 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 23 strikeouts against Seattle.

The Seattle Mariners will look to stay hot after completing the four game sweep of Baltimore, including a 4-2 win in the series finale on Thursday in 10 innings. Nelson Cruz led the charge by going 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Ben Gamel matched that mark at the dish by going 3 for 5 with a double, while Dee Gordon and Guillermo Heredia each contributed two hits. Jean Segura and Andrew Romine each added a base knock as well to cap off Seattle’s offense in the win. Mike Leake gave up both runs on five hits while striking out six over seven innings of work, not factoring in the decision. James Pazos picked up the win to improve to 2-1 while Juan Nicasio picked up his first save for Seattle. Marco Gonzales will start game one and is 7-5 with a 4.04 ERA and 80 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gonzales is 0-1 with a 12.79 ERA and 9 strikeouts against Kansas City.

Kansas City is 7-20 in Kennedy’s last 27 starts and 3-9 in their last 12 road games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall. Seattle is 5-2 in Gonzales’ last 7 starts and 12-1 in their last 13 home games against a right-handed starter while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against the AL Central. The under is 9-4-2 in the last 15 meetings between these two teams in Seattle.

There’s reason to consider the plus money as Gonzales has allowed 11 runs in his last two starts. However, both of those starts came against Boston and the Yankees, two teams that are far superior to the Royals. The Royals have lost Kennedy’s last 9 starts, and while some of them have been close, some haven’t been either. The Royals just swept an Orioles club that I feel is on the same level as Kansas City, so I expect more of the same here and I expect Seattle to draw first blood on Friday by a couple of runs.
