Up at Rogers Centre on Friday, the Detroit Tigers and the Toronto Blue Jays will be matching up on the MLB diamond to start their weekend series.
Detroit is coming out of a set versus the A’s. The Tigers were swept in those games 5-4, 9-7, 3-0 and 4-2.

For the Friday game, the Tigers will be bringing out LHP Francisco Liriano. In his 61.2 innings and 3-3 mark this year, Liriano has a 3.94 ERA with 48 Ks.
The Tigers’ top hitter this year is Nick Castellanos, with 99 hits, 41 runs, 11 homers and 47 RBI. Jose Iglesias is second on 73 hits, 26 runs and 28 RBI this season.
Over on the Blue Jays’ side, they just finished up against the Astros. Toronto won the first game of that set, but then lost the last two 7-0 and 7-6.
For the Friday game, the Jays will be going with Marcus Stroman in the start. Across 42.1 innings and an 0-5 record this year, Stroman has a 6.80 ERA with 37 Ks.
Tops in hitting for Toronto is Yangervis Solarte, with 77 hits, 40 runs, 15 homers and 45 RBI. Kevin Pillar isn’t too far behind with 75 hits, 37 runs and 29 RBI thus far.
The Tigers are 6-15 in their last 21 Friday games and 1-7 in their last eight in game one of a series. Detroit is also 0-8 in their last eight overall and 19-44 in their last 63 road games.
Meanwhile, the Jays are 8-1 in their last nine home games and 2-5 in their last seven games following an off day. Toronto is 4-0 in their last four games versus a team with a losing record and the over is 5-1 in their last six home games.
This should be an interesting matchup for Liriano, who used to play for Toronto before getting traded last summer. As for Stroman, he was great in his last outing with six scoreless, one walk and five Ks versus the Angels. Both these guys aren’t too far removed from DL stints. In any case, I like Liriano to have a good game here and guide the Tigers to a win. Detroit has to get a victory at some point, right?
