The Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds meet in game three of their four game NL Central division set in MLB action from Great American Ballpark on Saturday.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to win the series and push for the sweep on Sunday after taking game two on Friday by a final score of 8-2. Keon Broxton led the Brew Crew by going 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs. Hernan Perez added an RBI double and Manny Pina chipped in an RBI as well in the win. Jesus Aguilar went 2 for 5 while Brad Miller, Eric Thames, Travis Shaw and Ryan Braun each had a base knock in the winning effort. Chase Anderson got the win to improve his record to 6-6 this season, giving up one run on two hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Jhoulys Chacin will start game three and is 6-3 with a 3.82 ERA and 71 strikeouts this season. In his career, Chacin is 2-3 with a 4.08 ERA and 34 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Reds will look to bounce back and try to salvage a split after dropping the first two games of the series, including Friday’s defeat. Michael Lorenzen added a pinch-hit home run while Eugenio Suarez added an RBI as well to round out Cincy’s scoring in the loss. Scott Schebler, Tucker Barnhart, Joey Votto and Jose Peraza each had a base hit as the Reds put up just six hits as a team in the loss. Sal Romano took the loss, falling to 4-8 this season after giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Tyler Mahle will start game three and is 6-6 with a 3.98 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. This will be Mahle’s second career start against Milwaukee.
Milwaukee is 10-3 in Chacin’s last 13 starts and 16-6 in their last 22 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in Chacin’s last 5 road starts. Cincinnati is 5-1 in Mahle’s last 6 starts and 9-2 in their last 11 games overall while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall. Milwaukee is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Cincinnati.
I could be completely wrong here, but I actually think Mahle is turning a corner. He narrowly lost a decision to the Braves last time out, but had won his previous five starts before that. Chacin is fresh off of a start in which he allowed eight runs over just 4.1 innings of work, and while a low line with the Brewers is usually a must play, I feel like taking a chance on Cincinnati to get a win is the play on Saturday as the Reds seem to be trending in the right direction.
