TV: Fox Sports Sun

The Houston Astros and the Tampa Bay Rays meet in game three of their four game set from Tropicana Field in MLB action on Saturday.

The Houston Astros will look to rebound after dropping game two on Friday by a final score of 3-2. Alex Bregman accounted for both Astro runs, going 1 for 4 with a home run. Max Stassi added a double and Evan Gattis chipped in a base hit as the ‘Stros put forth just three hits as a team in the losing effort. Gerrit Cole took the loss, falling to 9-2 this season after giving up all three runs, one earned, on five hits while walking three and striking out five over six innings of work. Justin Verlander will start game three and is 9-3 with a 1.82 ERA and 136 strikeouts this season. In his career, Verlander is 8-3 with a 3.18 ERA and 107 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Houston Astros - 6/30/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays will look to build off of a game two win that evened the series up at one win apiece. Adeiny Hechavarria added an RBI while Daniel Robertson went 2 for 4 at the dish. Matt Duffy, Wilson Ramos and Joey Wendle each contributed a base knock as the A’s put out just five hits as a team in the victory. Wilmer Font ended up with the win to improve to 2-1 this season while Jose Alvarado picked up his 2nd save of the season. Matt Andriese will start game three and is 1-3 with a 4.02 ERA and 43 strikeouts this season. In his career, Andriese is 1-1 with a 6.14 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Houston.

Houston is 4-0 in Verlander’s last 4 road starts and 40-19 in their last 59 road games while the over is 4-1 in Verlander’s last 5 starts overall. Tampa Bay is 3-10 in their last 13 games against the AL West and 9-1 in their last 10 home games while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 Saturday games. Houston is 5-12 in the last 17 meetings between these two teams in Tampa Bay.

I’d like to side with Tampa Bay here as Houston has struggled at the Trop and the Rays have done a good job at keeping the Astros within arms reach in the two games so far in the series. However, Verlander has just been on another planet right now with how well he’s pitched this season, and Andriese isn’t the type of pitcher that can go shot for shot with JV. All in all, I expect this game to be much different than the first two as I think Houston rolls to a win by a couple of runs on Saturday.
