The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in the finale of their three game NL West division set in MLB action from Chase Field on Sunday.
The San Francisco Giants will look to complete the sweep after taking the first two games of the set, including a 7-0 shutout win in Saturday’s game two. Brandon Crawford, Pablo Sandoval and Joe Panik each had two RBIs, with Crawford and Panik each hitting a home run. Andrew McCutchen went 3 for 5 with a solo homer to round out San Francisco’s scoring in the win, while Buster Posey matched that mark at the plate. Gorkys Hernandez chipped in a pair of base hits to cap off the Giants’ offense in the victory. Dereck Rodriguez picked up the win to improve to 3-1 this season after tossing 6.1 shutout innings, giving up just six hits while striking out five. Derek Holland will start the finale and is 5-7 with a 4.24 ERA and 79 strikeouts this season. In his career, Holland is 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping Saturday’s matchup. David Peralta and Ketel Marte each had two hits, with Peralta’s hits resulting in a pair of doubles. Nick Ahmed, John Ryan Murphy and Jarrod Dyson each had a base hit as well to cap off Arizona’s offense in the defeat. Shelby Miller ended up with the loss after giving up six runs on nine hits while striking out six over five innings of work to drop to 0-2 this season. Zack Godley will start the finale and is 9-5 with a 4.58 ERA and 87 strikeouts this season. In his career, Godley is 2-2 with a 6.97 ERA and 23 strikeouts against San Francisco.
San Francisco is 5-1 in Holland’s last 6 starts and 14-3 in their last 17 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Arizona is 4-0 in Godley’s last 4 starts and 7-2 in their last 9 games overall while the under is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games against a left-handed starter. The under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Arizona.
San Francisco has gotten the upper hand so far in this set and are red hot, but the D-Backs are hot in their own right and Arizona seems like they’re due for a win. You have two hot pitchers going in Holland, who has allowed two runs or less in six of his last nine starts, and Godley, who has allowed two runs in each of his last four starts. All in all, I think it’s too hard to pick a side here, so I’ll side with the under as I see an underrated pitchers’ duel happening on Sunday.
