The Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in the finale of their three game set from Busch Stadium in MLB action on Sunday.
The Atlanta Braves will look to complete the sweep on Sunday after taking the first two games of the set, including an 11-4 win in game two on Saturday. Nick Markakis led Atlanta with five RBIs, going 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. Ronald Acuna Jr. went 3 for 5 with a homer, a double and two RBIs. Ozzie Albies added two RBIs as well with a double while Johan Camargo and Dansby Swanson each contributed a run to the cause as well to round out the scoring for Atlanta in the win. Ender Inciarte went 2 for 5 with a double and Kurt Suzuki added a two-bagger of his own, while Freddie Freeman and starting pitcher Max Fried each chipped in a base hit in the winning effort. Fried got the win on the mound after tossing 6.2 four hit shutout innings, striking out 11 en route to the victory. Mike Foltynewicz will start the finale and is 5-4 with a 2.14 ERA and 98 strikeouts this season. In his career, Foltynewicz is 1-2 with a 9.95 ERA and 9 strikeouts against St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping game two on Saturday. Jose Martinez belted a solo home run and Harrison Bader and Yairo Munoz each had a double and an RBI with Bader going 2 for 3 at the plate. Jedd Gyorko added an RBI as well to round out the Cardinals’ scoring in the loss, while Greg Garcia, Dexter Fowler, Yadier Molina, Francisco Pena and starting pitcher Luke Weaver each had a base knock as well to cap off St. Louis’ offense in the defeat. Weaver ended up with the loss after giving up eight runs on ten hits while striking out five over 4.2 innings of work to fall to 4-7 this season. John Gant will start game three and is 2-2 with a 3.48 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. This will be Gant’s first career start against Atlanta.
Atlanta is 4-1 in Foltynewicz’s last 5 starts and 8-1 in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. St. Louis is 1-5 in Gant’s last 6 starts on 2-5 in their last 7 games against the NL East while the under is 28-4-1 in their last 33 game 3 matchups. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in St. Louis.
The Cardinals are back in one of those funks over the weekend, where the offense can’t score and when they do, the pitching can’t keep runs off of the board on the other side. Foltynewicz has been arguably Atlanta’s best pitcher this season, despite not having a strong win-loss record, he has an ERA just over two and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in each of his last eight starts. Atlanta and the low line for the sweep on Sunday is probably one of the better bets on the card in my opinion.
