TV: ATT-RM, NBC-Bay

The San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies meet in game one of their three game set from Coors Field in MLB action on Monday.

The San Francisco Giants will look to stay hot after completing the sweep of the Diamondbacks following a 9-6 win over Arizona in the series finale on Sunday. Brandon Belt, Joe Panik and Hunter Pence each had two RBIs, with Belt and Pence each hitting a double. Brandon Crawford and Nick Hundley each had an RBI with a double as well, while Austin Slater added an RBI to round out San Fran’s scoring in the win. Starting pitcher Derek Holland added a double while Austin Jackson added a pinch-hit double of his own while Gorkys Hernandez and Pablo Sandoval each had a base knock of their own in the win. Holland gave up three runs on seven hits while walking and striking out four over 3.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Cory Gearrin got the win to improve to 1-1 this season while Will Smith got his 2nd save of the year. Madison Bumgarner will start one and is 1-2 with a 2.51 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bumgarner is 12-7 with a 2.92 ERA and 160 strikeouts against Colorado.

Sergio Estrada-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rockies will look to rebound after failing to complete the sweep of the Dodgers following a 6-4 loss in the series finale on Sunday. Nolan Arenado led the Rockies with a home run and two RBIs, while Trevor Story and Ian Desmond each added an RBI to round out Colorado’s scoring in the win, with Story going 2 for 4 with a double. Gerardo Parra went 2 for 4 with a double while Tom Murphy, Carlos Gonzalez and DJ LeMahieu each contributed a base hit in the losing effort for Colorado. Adam Ottavino ended up with the loss, falling to 4-2 this season. Kyle Freeland will start game one and is 7-6 with a 3.29 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. In his career, Freeland is 4-2 with a 2.61 ERA and 24 strikeouts against San Francisco.

San Francisco is 10-2 in their last 12 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 road games against a left-handed starter while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 division matchups. Colorado is 2-6 in Freeland’s last 8 starts against a team with a winning record and 4-10 in their last 14 home games while the over is 12-3-1 in their last 16 home games. San Francisco is 6-2 in Bumgarner’s last 8 starts against Colorado.

The plus money with the Rockies is tempting, considering that the ball flies out of Coors Field and that Freeland threw seven shutout innings against the Giants in his last start and has allowed just four runs in his three starts against San Francisco this season. However, the Rockies still lost that game and the Giants won with MadBum on the other side. San Francisco also comes into this one in much better form, winning 10 of their last 12 games. Furthermore, Bumgarner is starting to look like the staff ace we’ve become accustomed to seeing, throwing 15 consecutive shutout innings over his last two starts, and given that we are getting Bumgarner at a very cheap price, I think San Francisco should be the play on Monday to draw first blood.
