Instate rivals the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays square off  in a Monday MLB matchup.

The key for success for Tampa Bay is squeeze out a few runs and let their pitching do the rest and that formula worked to perfection in Sunday’s 3-2 win versus Houston. Tampa Bay starter Blake Snell improved to 11-4 with a run allowed over 7.1 frames while striking out ten.

The Rays offense mustered eight hits and walked twice with Mallex Smith smacking his first long ball of the year followed by Matt Duffy who connected on a two run single. Nathan Eovaldi toes the rubber Monday against the Marlins. Eovaldi comes in off of a 1-0 victory versus the visiting Nationals with one hit and two walks allowed while striking out nine in six frames.

The Miami Marlins never found their offense Sunday n a 5-2 defeat to the visiting Mets. Miami starter Dan Straily was charged with three runs in seven innings to absorb the loss with Tayron Guerrero giving up two runs.

The Marlins attack consisted of four hits and three bases on balls with Cameron Maybin connecting on his first long ball of 2017 while Miguel Rojas scored an unearned run. The Marlins send left hander Wei-Yin Chen to the mound to face Tampa Bay on Monday. Chen comes in off of a 2-1 defeat to the Diamondbacks with a run given up on five hits over six innings.

Tampa Bay are 7-1 in their last 8 overall and are 7-1 in their last 8 Monday games and Tampa Bay are 2-11 in their last 13 road games. Over is 8-3-2 in MIA last 13 overall and over is 8-3-2 in Miami last 13 on grass. Under is 12-4-2 in the last 18 meetings in Miami and Tampa Bay are 9-4 in the last 13 meetings.

I’m not a big fan of Eovaldi but if Tampa Bay can stand toe to toe with the Astros they have what it takes to win at Miami…
