Up at historic Wrigley Field on Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Tigers just came off a set against the Blue Jays. Detroit lost the first two games of that series but won on Sunday. In the Monday finale, the Tigers eked out a 3-2 win to tie the series.

For Tuesday’s game, the Tigers will be going with RHP Michael Fulmer. Across his 94.1 innings and 3-7 mark this year, Fulmer has a 4.20 ERA with 80 Ks and 30 BBs.
Nick Castellanos leads the way for the Detroit hitters with 103 hits, 43 runs, 13 homers and 53 RBI. On Monday, Castellans put up a hit and two runs.
As for the Cubs, they played the Twins this weekend. Chicago completed the sweep in those three games, outscoring Minnesota 35-25.
Chicago will be going with Kyle Hendricks on Tuesday. Over his 92.0 innings and 5-8 record this year, Hendricks has a 4.21 ERA with 70 Ks and 29 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Cubs this season is Javier Baez, with 85 hits, 53 runs, 16 homers and 61 RBI. Albert Almora is second on the team with 80 hits, 44 runs and 26 RBI to his credit so far.
The Tigers are 17-35 in their last 52 in game one of a series and 1-4 in Fulmer’s last five starts in game one of a series. Detroit is 1-4 in Fulmer’s last five Tuesday starts and 1-5 in his last six road starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 6-2 in Hendricks’ last eight starts in game one of a series and 1-5 in his last six starts. Chicago is 0-5 in Hendricks’ last five Tuesday starts and 1-4 in his last five starts versus the AL Central.
Fulmer had a couple of good games going last month, but in his last two starts he’s given up seven earned on 14 hits over 13.2 innings. As for Hendricks, he’s surrendered 10 earned over his last two starts in 8.1 innings. I’m not too thrilled with either pitcher right now, but if the Tigers are going to get a game in this series, now’s probably the time for a value pick.
