The San Diego Padres visit the Oakland Athletics in an interleague MLB matchup on Tuesday.

The San Diego Padres failed in their bid for back to back victories following a 7-5 loss to Pittsburgh. San Diego starter Tyson Ross was tagged for three homers and all seven runs through five innings to absorb the loss.

The Padres attack consisted of nine hits and seven walks with Hunter Renfroe going 2-5 with a homer and two RBI’s while Wil Myers and AJ Ellis both drove in runs and scored.

Veteran left hander Clayton Richard draws Tuesday’s starting assignment at Oakland. Richard comes off of a 5-2 loss at Texas with four runs allowed on ten hits in seven innings.

The red hot Oakland Athletics cooled off for one night in a 15-5 loss to Cleveland that ended a six game winning streak. Nothing went favorably for Oakland with starter Frankie Montas allowing three runs over 5.2 frames before four relievers combined to give up 12 runs.

The Athletics totaled nine hits and a pair of bases on balls with Mark Canha, Matt Olson and Jonathan Lucroy each knocking in runs. Chris Bassitt toes the rubber Tuesday against visiting San Diego who he faces for the first time. Bassitt defeated the Tigers 3-0 last time out with two hits and five BB allowed over six frames.

Under is 8-2 in San Diego last 10 Tuesday games and San Diego are 3-11 in their last 14 overall and San Diego are 3-11 in their last 14 games on grass. Over is 7-2 in Oakland last 9 home games and under is 7-3 in Oakland last 10 interleague games. Over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings.

Backing San Diego doesn’t seem like a logical thing to do but Richard has been a bright spot at times and I’ll do something small on the Padres…
