We have some AL West division action on Tuesday as the Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners kick off a three game set from Safeco Field in MLB action.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to rebound after failing to complete the sweep of the Baltimore Orioles, dropping Sunday’s series finale by a final score of 8-2. Kole Calhoun went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a double while Albert Pujols went 2 for 3 with an RBI of his own to round out the Angels’ scoring in the loss. Justin Upton and David Fletcher each added a base hit as the Angels put up just six hits as a team in the defeat. Deck McGuire took the loss, falling to 0-1 this season after giving up five runs on five hits while striking out four over just 3.1 innings of work. Andrew Heaney will start game one and is 4-5 with a 3.95 ERA and 76 strikeouts this season. In his career, Heaney is 1-2 with a 4.42 ERA and 16 strikeouts against Seattle.

The Seattle Mariners will look to extend their winning streak which currently sits at seven games after a second consecutive series sweep, taking all three game against Kansas City, including a 1-0 win in the series finale on Sunday. Ben Games plated the game’s lone run, while Kyle Seager went 2 for 3 with a double. Dee Gordon, Jean Segura and Ryon Healy each added a base hit as well to cap off Seattle’s offense in the win. James Paxton improve to 8-2 this season by throwing eight two hit shutout innings, striking out 11, before Edwin Diaz struck out the side in the 9th for his 32nd save of the year. Wade LeBlanc will start game one and is 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA and 56 strikeouts this season. In his career, LeBlanc is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 5 strikeouts against the Angels.

Los Angeles is 3-13 in Heaney’s last 16 road starts and 0-8 in their last 8 road games against a left-handed starter while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. Seattle is 12-0 in LeBlanc’s last 12 home starts and 5-1 in their last 6 division matchups while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall. Los Angeles is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

Both of these hurlers have been touched up lately, however the difference for me is that Seattle has been providing the offense to counter that, while the Angels have run hot and cold lately. Sure, Seattle’s seven wins came against two of the worst teams in the AL in Kansas City and Baltimore, but the standings don’t care as Seattle has a chance to pull even and even pull ahead of Houston for the division lead by the end of this series. Los Angeles just looks lost and I don’t expect Heaney to rebound after allowing six runs in just 3.1 innings in his last start. LeBlanc has been money at home, with the M’s winning each of his last 12 starts at Safeco Field so I’ll take the much hotter team in Seattle for the cheap price on Tuesday.
