The Tampa Bay Rays take the field at the rival Miami Marlins in interleague MLB action on Wednesday.
The Tampa Bay Rays are trying to survive in the top heavy American League East but the team is well off the pace as they hover around the .500 mark. Tampa Bay could be in better shape if they could win away from Tropicana Field but that’s wishful thinking with the offense struggling for consistency.

The Rays average just 3.87 runs despite a team batting average of .249 which is a solid #11 in the game. Tampa Bay stays competitive because of their arms which have posted a 3.61 ERA to rank number eight. The Rays have not named a starter as of yet and could go with their reliever by committee pitching scenario.
The Miami Marlins are a distant 4th in the National League East and are already out of the division race. Miami has struggled to string wins together which can be attributed to problems on the mound and at the plate.
The Marlins are #29 in scoring at 3.65 runs on a .240 team batting average. The Fish are at or near the bottom in several categories but the most glaring are the offense is last in homers and next to last in steals. Miami also has problems on the mound with a 4.67 ERA which is in the bottom quarter of the rankings.
The Marlins bring Jose Urena off of the disabled list to oppose visiting Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Urena has made 16 starts this season and has gone 2-9 with a 4.40 ERA over 94 innings.
Under is 7-1 in Tampa Bay last 8 Wednesday games and Tampa Bay are 2-12 in their last 14 road games and Tampa Bay are 2-12 in their last 14 games on grass. Miami are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. American League East and Miami are 4-1 in their last 5 interleague games. Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and Tampa Bay are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Miami.
Tampa Bay has not named a starter so I expect to see a bunch of relievers on the hill which has worked well. This is an early game and for a pick I’ll back the Rays against Urena coming off the DL but I’m not betting this…
