The Baltimore Orioles and the Philadelphia Phillies square off in the finale of their mini two game set in MLB action from Citizen’s Bank Park on Wednesday.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to salvage a split after dropping game one on Tuesday by a final score of 3-2. Mark Trumbo went 2 for 3 with a solo home run while Manny Machado and Chance Sisco each added a double. Tim Beckham, Jonathan School and starting pitcher Alex Cobb each contributed a base hit in the losing effort. Cobb ended up with the loss, falling to 2-10 this season after giving up all three runs on four hits while striking out five over 6.2 innings of work. Yefry Ramirez will start the finale and is 0-1 with a 2.89 ERA and 9 strikeouts this season. This will be Ramirez’s first career start against Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to keep the ball rolling and complete the mini sweep after their series opening win on Tuesday. Rhys Hoskins led the Phillies with a double and two RBIs while Andrew Knapp added a triple and an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Phils in the win. Maikel Franco went 2 for 3 and Carlos Santana added a double as Philly cranked out just five hits as a team in the win. Zach Eflin got the win to improve to 7-2 this season after giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six over seven innings of work. Seranthony Dominguez picked up his 8th save of the season as well. Aaron Nola will start game two and is 10-2 with a 2.48 ERA and 107 strikeouts this season. This will be Nola’s first career start against Baltimore.
Baltimore is 11-45 in their last 56 games against a team with a winning record and 14-43 in their last 57 road games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. Philadelphia is 17-5 in Nola’s last 22 home starts and 6-0 in Nola’s last 6 starts against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Baltimore is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams.
The losses just keep piling up for the Orioles, and it almost looks like the O’s will challenge the 2003 Tigers for the most losses in a season in American League history when Detroit went 43-119. Things will probably get worse on Wednesday before they get better, as Nola has been the best arm that the Phillies have had this season. Ramirez has a couple of handfuls of innings under his belt in his major league career, and the Orioles just continue to be an unbackable joke, regardless of his much plus money you get. The Phillies roll easily here.
