The Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals square off in game one of a three game set from Kauffman Stadium in MLB action on Friday.

The Boston Red Sox will look to stay hot after completing the three game sweep of the Washington Nationals following a 3-0 win in the series finale against Washington on Wednesday. Jackie Bradley Jr. led the BoSox by going 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers each went 2 for 4 with a double while Mookie Betts and Eduardo Nunez each matched that mark at the dish as well. Eduardo Rodriguez got the win to improve his record to 10-3 this season after throwing six shutout innings, giving up just three hits while striking out six. Craig Kimberly struck out a pair in the shutout 9th for his 26th save of the campaign. Chris Sale will start game one and is 8-4 with a 2.41 ERA and 164 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sale is 10-10 with a 2.92 ERA and 160 strikeouts against Kansas City.

Kansas City Royals vs. Boston Red Sox - 7/6/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Royals will be out to snap a six game losing streak after being swept for the second straight series following a 3-2 loss to Cleveland in their last outing. Whit Merrifield went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI while Salvador Perez went 2 for 4 and Alex Gordon added a double as well in the loss. Rosell Herrera, Hunter Dozier, Alcides Escobar and Drew Butera each contributed a base hit as well in the losing effort. Trevor Oaks took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season after giving up three runs on two hits over four innings of work. Jason Hammel will start game one and is 2-10 with a 5.56 ERA and 66 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hammel is 3-4 with a 5.13 ERA and 50 strikeouts against Boston.

Boston is 10-2 in Sale’s last 12 road starts against a team with a losing record and 47-18 in their last 65 games against a right-handed starter while the over is 8-2 in Sale’s last 10 starts against the AL Central. Kansas City is 1-6 in Hammel’s last 7 home starts and 13-38 in their last 51 games overall while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 home games. The over is 15-6-3 in the last 24 meetings between these two teams and 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams in Kansas City.

As hard as heavy juice like this is to stomach, and as tempting as plus money may appear on the surface, there’s simply no backing Kansas City here. The Royals continue to be the laughing stock of the AL and for all of baseball as far as I’m concerned, and sending Hammel to face a potent Red Sox lineup won’t help the fact that he has given up 15 runs, 13 earned, in his last two starts covering 10 innings. Sale has tossed back-to-back shutouts and I think he can make it three in a row against a below average Royals team. Give me Boston and the run line to squeeze any extra value out of this bet.
