The Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals square off in the finale of their three game set from Kauffman Stadium in MLB action on Sunday.
The Boston Red Sox will look to extend their winning streak and complete the sweep after pushing the streak to five with a 15-4 romp in game two on Saturday. Xander Bogaerts led the BoSox by going 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, while Andrew Benintendi and Sandy Leon each had two RBIs, with Benintendi going 2 for 2 with a home run and a double. Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez each had an RBI and a double with Betts going 4 for 6 with a pair of two-baggers. Blake Swihart, Mitch Moreland, Brock Holt, Rafael Devers, Sandy Leon and Jackie Bradley Jr. each had an RBI as well as each Boston player that stepped to the plate had an RBI in the victory. David Price gave up all four runs on six hits while striking out nine over 4.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Heath Hembree got the win to improve his record to 4-1 this season. Rick Porcello will start game three and is 10-3 with a 3.57 ERA and 104 strikeouts this season. In his career, Porcello is 8-8 with a 4.71 ERA and 80 strikeouts against Kansas City.

The Kansas City Royals will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping the first two games of the set, including their loss on Saturday. Lucas Duda led the Royals by going 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez each had an RBI to round out the Royals’ scoring in the loss. Whit Merrifield went 2 for 4 while Jorge Bonifacio and Alcides Escobar each added a double to cap off KC’s offense. Brad Keller gave up four runs on six hits while walking five over 4.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jason Adam took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season. Jakob Junis will start game three and is 5-10 with a 5.13 ERA and 92 strikeouts this season. In his career, Junis is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA and 5 strikeouts against Boston.
Boston is 5-0 in their last 5 road games and 10-4 in Porcello’s last 14 road starts while the over is 8-2-1 in Porcello’s last 11 starts overall. Kansas City is 0-7 in Junis last 7 starts and 13-39 in their last 52 games overall while the over is 11-5-1 in their last 17 games against the AL East. The over is 16-6-3 in the last 25 meetings between these two teams and 9-2-1 in the last 12 meetings between these two teams in Kansas City.
As if Kansas City could get any more unbackable, they go ahead and go from being tied in the 7th inning to ending up losing by 11 runs. Now they send Junis to the mound, who the Royals have lost his last seven starts and has allowed five or more runs in four of his last five starts, a total of 29 runs, 28 earned, over his last five starts spanning 27 innings. No thanks. Porcello has been up and down lately but he is still the better pitcher with the hotter offense behind him. Kansas City can’t keep runs off of the board and doesn’t have the offense to keep up. I’ll back Boston for the sweep in another rout on Sunday.
