The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays meet in the rubber match of their three game AL East division set from Rogers Centre in MLB action on Sunday.
The New York Yankees will look to win the set after evening up the series at one win apiece following an 8-5 win in game two on Saturday. Brett Gardner led the Yanks by going 2 for 5 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs, while Brandon Drury added two RBIs with a double and Aaron Judge added a solo home run. Miguel Andujar added a double and an RBI while Giancarlo Stanton, Kyle Higashioka and Greg Bird each contributed a base hit as well in the win. Luis Severino got the win to improve to 14-2 this season after giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Domingo German will start game three and is 2-4 with a 5.37 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. This will be German’s first career start against Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to rebound after dropping game two on Saturday. Kevin Pillar led the Blue Jays with a two run home run as part of his three RBI day while Randal Grichuk and Aledmys Diaz each added solo homers. Justin Smoak went 2 for 4 with a double and Curtis Granderson added a double of his own while Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Kendrys Morales and Luke Maile each chipped in a base knock to round out Toronto’s offense in the loss. J.A. Happ took the loss, falling to 10-5 on the year after allowing six runs on four hits while walking six and striking out five over just 2.2 innings of work. Ryan Borucki will start the finale and is 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. This will be Borucki’s first career start against the Yankees.
New York is 4-1 in German’s last 5 starts and 1-5 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 24-5 in their last 29 games overall. Toronto is 12-5 in their last 17 home games and 9-4 in their last 13 home games against a right-handed starter while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 division matchups. New York is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
The Yankees should be favoured here, and it’s not often you get the Yankees with a reasonable price tag like this. However I’m not going to be too hasty to jump on German who has been as inconsistent as they come and has allowed three or more runs in eight of his last ten starts. Borucki isn’t a household name by any means, but he has done well against an equally potent lineup in his major league debut, holding the Astros to just two runs over six innings of work. I’m not sure the same happens here, but I’d rather take a shot at Toronto and the plus money or leave this one alone.
