For Tuesday’s matchup, the Rangers will be bringing out RHP Yovani Gallardo. In his 25.1 innings and 3-0 mark this season, Gallardo has an 8.17 ERA with 18 Ks and 11 BBs.
Shin-Soo Choo is the top hitter for the Rangers this season, carrying 98 hits, 52 runs, 17 homers and 42 RBI into this set. In the opener, Choo was out and the rangers put up just five hits as a team.
As for the Sox, they are going with reliever Hector Velazquez in the start Tuesday. Over his 45.2 innings and 6-0 record this year, Velazquez has a 2.76 ERA with 28 Ks and 10 walks.
Boston’s leading hitter this season is JD Martinez, and he came into this set on 108 hits, 64 runs, 27 homers and 74 RBI. On Monday, Martinez hit a homer and posted two runs with three RBI.
The Rangers are 11-5 in their last 16 in game two of a series and 7-0 in Gallardo’s last seven road starts. Texas is also 6-1 in Gallardo’s last seven starts with four days’ rest and they’re 21-8 in his last 29 starts.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series and 39-16 in their last 55 Tuesday games. The over is 3-0-1 in the Sox’ last four Tuesday games and 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series.
Gallardo has been okay over his last three starts but not stellar. In that span, he’s given up a total of 10 earned runs in 18.0 innings on a total of 18 hits. Velazquez has given up a handful of runs here and there, but overall has been solid. Gallardo and Velazquez don't have a huge body of work to go by in this situation, but I think I’ve seen enough. I’m going Sox.
