We have an interleague battle of Ohio as the Cincinnati Reds visit the Cleveland Indians in game two of their three game set from Progressive Field on Tuesday.

The Cincinnati Reds will look to keep their momentum going after taking the opener on Monday by a final score of 7-5. Scott Schebler led the Reds by going 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Tucker Barnhart went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while Jesse Winker and Joey Votto each added an RBI to round out the scoring for Cincinnati in the win. Votto hit a solo home run while Winker went 2 for 3 with a double. Billy Hamilton went 2 for 4 while Eugenio Suarez added a base knock of his own to cap off the Reds’ offense in the win. Anthony DeSclafani got the win, improving to 4-1 on the year after allowing just one run on five hits over seven innings of work. Raisel Iglesias closed out the 9th for his 18th save of the campaign. Sal Romano will start game two and is 5-8 with a 5.40 ERA and 73 strikeouts this season. This will be Romano’s first career start against Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians will be looking to rebound after dropping the series opener on Monday. Jason Kipnis led the Tribe by going 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Yonder Alonso added a solo homer while Francisco Lindor and Michael Brantley each had a double and an RBI to round out the scoring for Cleveland in the loss. Yan Gomes went 2 for 4 with a double while Tyler Naquin and Greg Allen each contributed a base hit as well in the losing effort for the Tribe. Mike Clevinger took the loss, falling to 7-4 this season after giving up five runs on seven hits while striking out 11 over six innings of work. Trevor Bauer will start game two and is 8-6 with a 2.45 ERA and 156 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bauer is 1-2 with a 4.95 ERA and 19 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 7-1 in their last 8 games against the AL Central and 4-1 in Romano’s last 5 starts while the over is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games overall. Cleveland is 6-1 in Bauer’s last 7 home starts and 5-2 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the NL Central. Cincinnati is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and 5-16 in the last 21 meetings between the two teams in Cleveland.

I haven’t been Bauer’s biggest supporter this season I’ll admit, but he’s starting to put forth performances worthy of heavy lines like these, giving up two runs or less in five of his last six starts. However, Cleveland has lost three of the four games against Cincinnati started by Bauer, and while Romano’s results on the mound haven’t been pretty, the Reds have still won five of his last seven starts and have been in decent form lately, so I’ll take a shot at Cincinnati for a second straight upset on Tuesday.
