For Tuesday’s game, the A’s will be sending out Sean Manaea in the start. Over 113.2 innings and an 8-6 mark this year, Manaea has a 3.33 ERA with 78 Ks and 22 BBs.

The A’s top hitter this year is Jed Lowrie, with 100 hits 40 runs, 16 homers and 62 RBI entering this set. On Monday, Lowrie was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Over on the Astros’ side, they're going with Justin Verlander on Tuesday. In his 125.2 innings and 9-4 record this year, Verlander has a 2.15 ERA with 154 Ks and 24 BBs.

Jose Altuve leads the Astros this season on 122 hits, 61 runs and 44 RBI. In the Monday opener, Altuve bagged one hit.

The A’s are 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series and 4-0 in Manaea’s last four starts with five days’ rest. Oakland is also 5-0 in Manaea’s last five starts and 4-1 in his last five road starts.

Meanwhile, the Astros are 49-23 in their last 72 in game two of a series and 20-9 in Verlander’s last 29 starts. Houston is 2-5 in Verlander’s last seven home starts and 11-5 in his last 16 starts with four days’ rest.

Manaea has five straight quality starts to his credit, and has only allowed more than two earned once in his last six outings (and that was only three). Verlander had a couple of sketchy starts last month (nine earned in 11.2 innings), but in his last game he surrendered just two earned in 7.0 innings versus the White Sox. This might not be a terrible spot to value-pick the A’s.
