The Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins meet in game two of a three game AL Central division matchup from Target Field on Tuesday.
The Kansas City Royals are in dire need of a feel good win after another double digit losing streak, this one sitting at 10 games following a 3-1 loss in the series opener on Monday. Alcides Escobar accounted for the lone KC run in the win, going 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Alex Gordon went 2 for 4 with a double and Salvador Perez added a two-bagger as well, while Whit Merrifield, Jorge Bonifacio and Rosell Herrera each contributed a base hit in the losing effort. Danny Duffy threw six shutout innings, giving up just six hits while striking out nine, not factoring in the decision. Tim Hill took the loss, falling to 1-3 on the year. Ian Kennedy will start game two and is 1-8 with a 5.11 ERA and 84 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kennedy is 4-4 with a 4.52 ERA and 51 strikeouts against Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins will look to keep the ball rolling after taking the opener on Monday, pushing their winning streak to five games. Joe Bauer and Eduardo Escobar each had three hits and an RBI while Eddie Rosario chipped in an RBI as well to round out the scoring for Minnesota in the win. Bobby Wilson added a double while Brian Dozier, Max Kepler and Jake Cave each added a base knock as well. Jose Berrios got the win to improve to 9-7 this season after giving up the one run on six hits while striking out eight over seven innings of work. Aaron Slegers will start game two and is 1-0 with a 2.38 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. This will be Slegers’ first career start against Kansas City.
Kansas City is 11-43 in their last 54 games against a right-handed starter and 0-7 in Kennedy’s last 7 road starts while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Minnesota is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall and 6-0 in their last 6 home games while the under is 10-4 in their last 14 game 2 matchups. Kansas City is 1-4 in Kennedy’s last 5 starts against Minnesota.
There’s not really enough of a sample size with Slegers to warrant laying this kind of juice with the Twins, even on a winning streak. However, there’s simply no backing the Royals no matter how much plus money you get. Unless you’re getting an obscene amount of plus money to take a chance, you’re just burning cash if you back Kansas City. The Royals just keep finding ways to lose games and Duffy throwing six shutout innings may have been their best chance to steal a win and the Royals still messed it up. I’m not playing this game personally, but if forced to pick, I’d lay the juice with Minnesota here.
