Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

For Tuesday’s game, the Nats will be sending out RHP Jeremy Hellickson. In his 52.0 innings and 2-1 mark this year, Hellickson has a 3.81 ERA with 40 Ks and nine walks.

Trea Turner leads the Nats this year in hitting, with 100 hits, 54 runs, 11 homers and 37 RBI entering this set. On Monday, Turner had an 0-for-4 night.

Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Jose Musgrove on Tuesday Musgrove has put up 40.1 innings and a 3-3 mark this year, with a 3.79 ERA, 36 Ks and 11 BBs.

Corey Dickerson was the top hitter for the Pirates entering this set, with 92 hits, 35 runs and 34 RBI. On Monday, Dickerson hit a triple with an RBI and two runs.

The Nationals are 7-3 in their last 10 Tuesday games and 2-5 in their last seven in game two of a series. Washington is 6-2 in Hellickson’s last eight starts and 4-1 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.

Meanwhile, the Pirates are 0-6 in their last six in game two of a series and 0-7 in their last seven Tuesday games. Pittsburgh is 1-4 in Musgrove’s last five starts and 1-4 in his last five starts on grass.

Over his last two starts combined, Hellickson has allowed 11 earned over 8.2 total innings on 16 hits. As for Musgrove, he had a pair of bad starts last month (11 earned on 15 hits in 8.1 innings), but then had a good bounce-back versus San Diego his last time up with no earned in 7.0 innings. It seems a little strange to think this, but I’m going Pirates here.
