The St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox meet in the finale of their mini two game set from Guaranteed Rate Field in MLB action on Wednesday.
The St. Louis Cardinals will look to complete the sweep by taking game one in a 14-2 rout on Tuesday. Dexter Fowler led the Cardinals with four RBIs, going 2 for 5 with a grand slam. Kolten Wong and Jose Martinez each had two RBIs with Wong going 4 for 5 with a home run and a double while Martinez went 3 for 4 with a double of his own. Jedd Gyorko added a double with an RBI as well, while Marcell Ozuna, Yadier Molina and Yairo Munoz each chipped in RBIs in the win. Matt Carpenter and Paul DeJong each added base hits as well in the winning effort for the Cards. Miles Mikolas picked up the win to improve to 10-3 this season after giving up both runs on three hits while striking out six over six innings of work. Luke Weaver will start game two and is 5-7 with a 4.92 ERA and 89 strikeouts this season. This will be Weaver’s first career start against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox will look to salvage a split after dropping the series opener on Tuesday, pushing their losing streak to six games. Charlie Tilson’s two run single accounted for all of the White Sox scoring in the loss. Yolmer Sanchez and Tim Anderson each had a double while Leury Garcia and Omar Narvaez each added a base knock as well in the loss. Dylan Covey took the loss, falling to 3-5 this season after giving up five runs, four earned, on nine hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Carlos Rodon will start game two and is 1-3 with a 4.29 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. This will be Rodon’s second career start against St. Louis.
St. Louis is 4-0 in Weaver’s last 4 road starts and 3-9 in their last 12 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 interleague road games. Chicago is 1-5 in Rodon’s last 6 starts and 27-58 in their last 85 games overall while the over is 14-5 in their last 19 games overall. St. Louis is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The White Sox have been outscored 50-20 during this losing skid, and even though Rodon has been decent this season and Weaver has been a mixed bag, Rodon allowed seven runs in four innings in his lone start against the Cardinals. Weaver allowed just two runs over eight innings against a Giants team that’s dangerous on their home field, so I’ll lay the juice with more trustworthy team at the reasonable price and that’s St. Louis.
