For the Wednesday game, the Royals will be bringing out RHP Burch Smith. In his 38.1 innings and 0-0 mark, Smith has a 5.40 ERA with 39 Ks and 21 BBs this year.
KC’s top hitter this year is Whit Merrifield, who entered game two on 102 hits, 37 runs and 29 RBI. On Tuesday, Merrifield had two hits and two runs.
Over on the Twins’ side, they’re going with Lance Lynn on Wednesday. Across 86.1 innings and a 6-7 record this season, Lynn has a 5.21 ERA with 85 Ks and 52 BBs.
Minnesota’s leading hitter is Eddie Rosario, who entered the Tuesday game with 105 hits, 58 runs, 18 homers and 54 RBI. In game two, Rosario managed a hit.
The Royals are 16-36 in their last 52 in game three of a series and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. The under is 9-2 in KC’s last 11 Wednesday games and they’re 1-4 in their last five versus the AL Central.
Meanwhile, the Twins are 1-7 in their last eight Wednesday games and 4-1 in Lynn’s last five home starts. The under is 5-0 in the Twins’ last five Wednesday games and 11-5 in their last 16 in game three of a series.
Smith doesn’t have an extended body of work this year to apply to a starting situation, but he did put in 4.0 innings against the Red Sox his last time out, with two hits and no earned. As for Lynn, he coughed up seven earned in Chicago but bounced back with one earned in 6.0 innings against Baltimore. I’m not thrilled with either pitcher here, but I’m tentatively going with Lynn and the Twins.
