The Kansas City Royals and the Chicago White Sox meet in game one of a three game AL Central division set from Guaranteed Rate Field in MLB action on Friday.

The Kansas City Royals desperately need a win after losing 11 of their last 12 games following an 8-5 loss in the rubber match of their series against Minnesota on Wednesday. Salvador Perez led the Royals by going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Mike Moustakas added a pair of solo homers while going 3 for 5 to round out the Royals’ scoring in the loss. Jorge Bonifacio, Alcides Escobar, Adalberto Mondesi and Drew Butera each added a base knock to cap off Kansas City’s offense in the losing effort. Burch Smith went 3.1 innings in the start, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out four, not factoring in the decision. Glenn Sparkman took the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Brad Keller will start game one and is 2-3 with a 2.52 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season. This will be Keller’s first career start against the White Sox.

Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals - 7/13/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Peter G. Aiken

The Chicago White Sox will be looking to build some steam after salvaging a split with the Cardinals taking the finale of their two game set on Wednesday by a final score of 4-0. Tim Anderson led the White Sox with two RBIs, going 1 for 3 with a double while Charlie Tilson and Jose Abreu each added an RBI as well in the win. Yolmer Sanchez and Omar Narvaez each had two hits while Yoan Moncada added a triple as well to round out Chicago’s offense. Carlos Rodon picked up the win to improve to 2-3 this season after tossing 7.1 shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out seven. Joakim Soria picked up the save for his 13th save of the campaign. James Shields will start game one and is 3-10 with a 4.53 ERA and 85 strikeouts this season. In his career, Shields is 8-2 with a 4.18 ERA and 73 strikeouts against Kansas City.

Kansas City is 1-5 in Keller’s last 6 starts and 13-41 in their last 54 games overall while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 division matchups. Chicago is 1-4 in Shields’ last 5 starts and 7-19 in their last 26 division matchups while the under is 9-1-1 in Shields’ last 11 starts against a team with a losing record. The under is 4-1-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

This game to me boils down to which of the two evils do you feel is lesser and deserving of your hard earned money in this dumpster fire of a game. Keller has been decent for Kansas City, but the Royals can’t buy a win. Chicago has the more experienced starter on the bump in Shields who has had past success in his career against the Royals, but is more prone to a blow-up. All in all, I think the two offenses are similar, so I’d take a shot on Kansas City and the plus money but the best bet is to leave this one alone on Friday.
