The Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in game one of a three game NL Central division set from Busch Stadium in MLB action on Friday.

The Cincinnati Reds will look to rebound after failing to complete the sweep of the Cleveland Indians in emphatic fashion on Wednesday, losing the series finale in a 19-4 romp. Jesse Winker led the Reds by going 2 for 4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs. Scooter Gennett added a solo homer while going 3 for 5 and Jose Peraza added an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Reds in the loss. Billy Hamilton added a triple while Scott Schebler, Joey Votto, Tucker Barnhart and Curt Casali each contributed a base hit in the losing effort. Tyler Mahle took the loss, falling to 7-7 this season after giving up seven runs, five earned, on six hits over just 2.1 innings of work. Matt Harvey will start game one and is 4-5 with a 4.80 ERA and 64 strikeouts this season. In his career, Harvey is 0-2 with a 3.21 ERA and 27 strikeouts against St. Louis.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds - 7/13/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last five games, including a 4-0 loss to the White Sox last time out to settle for a split in their two game series. Matt Carpenter added a double while Jose Martinez, Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong each contributed a base hit as the Cards put up just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Luke Weaver took the loss, falling to 5-8 this season after giving up one run on three hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Carlos Martinez will start game one and is 6-4 with a 3.05 ERA and 83 strikeouts this season. In his career, Martinez is 7-4 with a 3.60 ERA and 86 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 1-4 in Harvey’s last 5 road starts and 16-7 in their last 23 games overall while the over is 8-1-1 in their last 10 division matchups. St. Louis is 7-3 in Martinez’s last 10 home starts and 2-6 in their last 8 home games against a team with a losing record while the over is 10-3-1 in their last 14 series opening matchups. St. Louis is 8-3 in Martinez’s last 11 starts against Cincinnati.

Anyone who follows me here knows I got burned with the Reds big time on Wednesday, and while a bounce back is possible here given how well Harvey has pitched as of late, I’m thinking it’ll take at least one more day to get back on track. The Reds touched up Martinez for five runs in just 3.2 innings in his last start against Cincinnati, but before that Martinez threw back-to-back shutouts against the Reds. I think Martinez has the ability to pick up St. Louis and lead them to a win to draw first blood, so I’ll lay the juice with the Cardinals here.
