The Detroit Tigers and the Houston Astros hook up for game two of their three game set from Minute Maid Park in MLB action on Saturday.

The Detroit Tigers will look to bounce back after losing their last five games following a 3-0 loss in the series opener on Friday. Ronny Rodriguez went 2 for 4 at the dish and JaCoby Jones added a double while John Hicks, Nick Castellanos, James McCann and Jeimer Candelario each contributed a base hit in the losing effort for the Tigers. Mike Fiers took the loss, falling to 6-6 this season after allowing all three runs on nine hits over six innings of work. Michael Fulmer will start game two and is 3-8 with a 4.11 ERA and 91 strikeouts this season. This will be Fulmer’s second career start against Houston.

Houston Astros vs. Detroit Tigers - 7/14/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Astros will look to keep their momentum going after winning the series opener on Friday. Alex Bregman led the ‘Stros by going 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Yuli Gurriel matched that mark with an RBI of his own to round out Houston’s scoring in the win. Jose Altuve and Tony Kemp each had two hits while Marwin Gonzalez added a double. Max Stassi and George Springer each had a base hit as well to cap off Houston’s offense in the victory. Dallas Keuchel got the win to improve to 7-8 this season after tossing six shutout innings, giving up just six hits while striking out four. Hector Rondon closed the 9th for his 8th save of the season. Gerrit Cole will start game two and is 9-2 with a 2.57 ERA and 169 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cole is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 26 strikeouts against Detroit.

Detroit is 4-18 in their last 22 games overall and 2-14 in Fulmer’s last 16 starts against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-0 in Fulmer’s last 6 starts overall. Houston is 40-14 in their last 54 games against a team with a losing record and 19-7 in their last 26 games against the AL Central while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 home games. Detroit is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Houston.

Detroit is just struggling right now, and are just waiting to get to the all-star break. Houston is just trying to keep their momentum going and sending Cole to the mound doesn’t hurt, as he’s allowed one run or less in three of his last four starts. Fulmer showed promise for the Tigers last season, but he’s struggled mightily in all facets this season. All in all, I think Houston runs away with this one and pushes for the sweep on Sunday, so to negate the heavy juice, I’ll back Houston on the run line.
