The Tampa Bay Rays and the Minnesota Twins hook up in game three of their four game set from Target Field in MLB action on Saturday.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to bounce back after dropping the first two games of the set, including an 11-8 loss in game two on Friday. Jake Bauers led the Rays by going 2 for 5 with a homer, a double and three RBIs, while Joey Wendle also went yard with two runs on the board. Matt Duffy and C.J. Cron each contributed a double with Cron chipping in a two-bagger. Wilson Ramos and Carlos Gomez each had two hits with a double, while Kevin Kiermaier and Adeiny Hechavarria had a base hit as well in the losing effort. Nathan Eovaldi took the loss, falling to 3-4 this season after allowing eight runs on nine hits over just 2.2 innings of work. Chris Archer will start game three and is 3-4 with a 5.51 ERA and 79 strikeouts this season. In his career, Archer is 6-1 with a 1.95 ERA and 52 strikeouts against Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins will look to win the set and push for a sweep on Sunday after their victory in game two on Friday. Joe Bauer led the Twins by going 2 for 3 with a homer and four RBIs, while Jake Cave went 3 for 4 with a triple, a double and two runs batted in. Robbie Grossman went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI while Jorge Polanco, Max Kepler, Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier each added an RBI. Polanco added a triple, while Dozier cranked a double. Eddie Rosario went 2 for 5 to cap off the Twins’ offense in the win. Jake Odorizzi gave up six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out three over 4.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Trevor Hildenberger got the win to improve to 2-2 this season. Jose Berrios will start game three and is 9-7 with a 3.41 ERA and 122 strikeouts this season. In his career, Berrios is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA and 11 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 6-1 in their last 7 games against the AL Central and 5-15 in their last 20 road games while the under is 34-15-2 in their last 51 games overall. Minnesota is 18-3 in Berrios’ last 21 home starts and 8-1 in their last 9 home games while the under is 7-3-1 in Berrios’ last 11 starts overall. Tampa Bay is 7-1 in Archer’s last 8 starts against Minnesota and 4-0 in his last 4 road starts against the Twins.
The Rays on the road aren’t a scary team by any means, especially with the Twins’ ace on the other side at home where he’s been pretty much money. However, I expect Archer to be a bit more comfortable now with a start under his belt after coming off of the DL, and he has done very well against the Twins in his career, including a 4-0 record with a 1.38 ERA and 26 strikeouts at Target Field. I think the Rays can salvage a win so I’ll take a stab at the plus money on Saturday with the Rays.
