Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

For the Sunday game, the Tigers will be sending out LHP Francisco Liriano. In his 76.0 innings and 3-5 mark this year, Liriano has a 4.74 ERA with 60 Ks and 42 BBs.

Tops in hitting for the Tigers this year is Nick Castellanos, who came into the weekend on 113 hits, 53 runs, 15 homers and 56 RBI. On Saturday, Castellans had two hits and a run.

Over on the Astros’ side, their Sunday starter will be Justin Verlander. Across 131.2 innings and a 9-4 record this year, Verlander has a 2.05 ERA with 160 Ks.

Jose Altuve is the Astros’ leading hitter this season, entering game two on 128 hits, 62 runs and 44 RBI. In the Saturday game, Altuve had a hit and a run.

The Tigers are 6-15 in their last 21 Sunday games and 0-6 in Liriano’s last six starts. Detroit is 0-4 in Liriano’s last four starts on grass and 0-7 in his last seven road starts.

Meanwhile, the Astros are 4-1 in the last five Sunday games and 7-2 in the last nine in game three of a series. The over is 4-0-1 in Houston’s last five in game three of a series and 36-16-3 in their last 55 Sunday games.

Over a three-start stretch last month, Liriano did pretty well with eight earned over 16.0 innings, but then coughed up seven earned in 2.1 innings in Tampa his last time out. Verlander, meanwhile, is going against his former team for the first time since being traded back in August. It should be a familiar setting for both guys, but I have to go Astros. A Tigers value pick here might not be a bad idea though, since the line is so thick.
