The Washington Nationals and the New York Mets square off in the finale of their four game NL East division set in MLB action from Citi Field on Sunday.

The Washington Nationals will look to salvage a series split with the Mets after dropping game three on Saturday by a final score of 7-4. Matt Adams led the Nats by going 1 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Bryce Harper and Anthony Rendon each had an RBI as well in the losing effort. Adam Eaton went 3 for 4 with a double while Juan Soto and Trea Turner each chipped in a base knock as well to cap off Washington’s offense in the losing effort. Austin Both took the loss in his major league debut, giving up all seven runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings of work. Jeremy Hellickson will start game four and is 3-1 with a 3.47 ERA and 43 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hellickson is 2-4 with a 7.40 ERA and 34 strikeouts against the Mets.

The New York Mets will look to win the series after taking game three on Saturday. Michael Conforto led the Mets by going 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Brandon Nimmo, Jose Reyes, Amed Rosario and starting pitcher Zack Wheeler each added an RBI as well in the victory. Kevin Plawecki and Jose Reyes each went 2 for 4 at the dish, while Ty Kelly and Asdrubal Cabrera each contributed a base knock as well in the win. Zack Wheeler got the win after allowing all four runs on eight hits while striking out seven over 7.2 innings of work. Jeurys Familia closed out the 9th for his 17th save of the season. Corey Oswalt will start the finale and is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season. This will be Oswalt’s second career start against Philadelphia.

Washington is 5-0 in Hellickson’s last 5 starts against a team with a losing record and 3-11 in their last 14 road games while the under is 4-0 in Hellickson’s last 4 road starts. New York is 6-20 in their last 26 home games and 9-20 in their last 29 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. Washington is 50-18 in the last 68 meetings between these two teams in New York.

Hellickson may not have the record to show for it, but he’s pitched well for the Nationals. Oswalt allowed just three runs over six innings in his last start, but he still ended up with the loss and has allowed 13 runs in 17.1 innings of work this season. The Nationals need to finish the first half on a high note to try to get the ball rolling after the all-star break, and I think they take a step with a series split and a win in the finale on Sunday.
