The Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in the finale of their three game set from Busch Stadium in MLB action on Sunday.

The Cincinnati Reds will look to complete the sweep after taking the first two games of the set following an 8-2 win over the Cards in game two on Saturday. Jose Peraza, Joey Votto, Scooter Gennett and Eugenio Suarez each had two RBIs to round out Cincinnati’s scoring in the win, with Peraza going 5 of 6 at the dish while Votto and Gennett each had two hits with a double. Adam Duvall, Jesse Winker, Alex Blandino and Billy Hamilton each added a base knock to cap off Cincinnati’s offense in the win. Luis Castillo gave up both runs on five hits over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision, while Austin Brice picked up the win to improve to 2-2 this season. Anthony DeSclafani will start the finale and is 4-1 with a 4.43 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his career, DeSclafani is 5-1 with a 2.30 ERA and 40 strikeouts against St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to finish strong and avoid the sweep after dropping game two on Saturday. Matt Carpenter went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a double, while Marcell Ozuna added an RBI as well to cap off St. Louis’ scoring in the loss. Kolten Wong and Paul DeJong each had a double, while Dexter Fowler went 2 for 4, Yadier Molina, Jedd Gyorko and starting pitcher Jack Flaherty each contributed a base hit as well to round out the offense for the Cardinals in the loss. Flaherty threw five shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five, not factoring in the decision. Jordan Hicks received his 4th blown save while taking the loss to fall to 3-2 this season. Miles Mikolas will start game three and is 10-3 with a 2.65 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. In his career, Mikolas is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 12 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 4-1 DeSclafani’s last 5 road starts and 17-7 in their last 24 games overall while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 road games. St. Louis is 0-5 in their last 5 home games and 9-4 in Mikolas’ last 13 starts while the under is 6-0 in Mikolas’ last 6 home starts. Cincinnati is 6-1 in DeSclafani’s last 7 starts against St. Louis.

Mikolas has a pair of wins while allowing just two earned runs in 14 innings of work against Cincinnati this season. However, both of those starts came in mid-April when the Reds were really struggling to start the year. DeSclafani has pitched well this season, and owns strong career numbers against the Cardinals in his career. Given how the Reds have performed in the first two games of the series, outscoring St. Louis 17-3 to start the series, I think the plus money with Cincinnati holds some serious value here.
