The Line: Milwaukee Brewers / Los Angeles Dodgers --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers hook up for game one of a three game set from Miller Park in MLB action on Friday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to pick up where they left off after closing out the first half with a series win over the Angels, including a 5-3 win in the series finale last time out. Enrique Hernandez led the Dodgers with two RBIs, going 1 for 2 with a homer while Yasmani Grandal belted a solo homer of his own, going 3 for 3 at the dish. Andrew Toles and starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw each added an RBI to round out L.A.’s scoring in the win. Cody Bellinger went 2 for 4 and Chris Taylor added a base knock as well to cap off the Dodgers’ offense. Kershaw gave up all three runs on six hits while walking four and striking out eight over 6.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Kenta Made got the win to improve to 7-5 while Kenley Jansen picked up his 27th save of the year. Rich Hill will start game one and is 2-4 with a 4.55 ERA and 60 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hill is 2-1 with a 3.92 ERA and 43 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will be looking to start fresh after the all-star break, finishing the first half with a rare yet pathetic five game sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates, including a 7-6 loss in the series finale last time out. Brett Phillips led the charge by going 2 for 5 with a triple and four RBIs. Travis Shaw added a solo home run while Tyler Saladino went 2 for 4 with an RBI of his own to round out Milwaukee’s scoring in the loss. Christian Yelich went 3 for 5 with a double while Erik Kratz added a base knock to cap off the Brew Crew’s scoring in defeat. Jhoulys Chacin gave up two runs, one earned, on one hit over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Corey Knebel received his 3rd blown save of the season, while Dan Jennings also had a blown save, taking the loss to fall to 3-3 this season. Wade Miley will start the opener and is 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA and 9 strikeouts this season. In his career, Miley is 3-5 with a 4.16 ERA and 59 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 14-3 in their last 17 series opening matchups and 17-6 in their last 23 road games while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games against the NL Central. Milwaukee is 0-6 in their last 6 games overall and 5-2 in their last 7 series opening matchups while the under is 17-6 in their last 23 games against the NL West. Los Angeles is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Milwaukee.
Hill has had his issues, and he is probably the least reliable arm in the Dodgers’ rotation, the weak link if you will. However, the Dodgers went into the break playing far better baseball over the previous week, while Milwaukee suffered the rare five game sweep against a Pirates team that wasn’t doing much before that. Miley was solid in his first start off of the DL, but he still took the loss as the Brewers forgot how to hit that series against Pittsburgh. I like the Dodgers to draw first blood on Friday with a series opening W.
