The Chicago Cubs look to stay hot after winning seven of their last 10 games. The Cubs have scored 21 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six straight games. The Chicago Cubs have won seven of their last nine games when scoring more than one run. Javier Baez leads the Cubs with 101 hits and 72 RBI while Albert Almora Jr. and have combined for 173 hits and 63 RBI. Mike Montgomery gets the ball, and he is 3-3 with a 3.91 ERA and 48 strikeouts this season. Montgomery is 1-1 with a 1.15 ERA and 17 strikeouts in his career against the Cardinals.

The Cubs are 4-0 in their last 4 second games of a double-header, 48-23 in their last 71 home games and 6-1 in their last 7 Saturday games. The Cardinals are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago and 7-15 in the last 22 meetings.
It's always tough to predict the second game of a doubleheader when you have no idea how the first game is going to go, but it's usually the team the loses the first game ends up winning the second. So, I'm going to side with the Cubs in this game. Gant has been really solid this season, especially on the road, but the Cards give him very little run support, which is why they've lost seven of the last nine games in which he's pitched. Montgomery has cooled off big time from the numbers he was putting up last month, but he's still a guy who was going deep into games while allowing one or less runs on a consistent basis. I'll take the Cubs in the second game.
