The MLB’s Subway Series continues on Saturday as the New York Mets visit the New York Yankees out at Yankee Stadium.

In the Friday opener, the Mets jumped on the Yankees pitching early, and by the end of the fifth they were up 6-1. The Yankees mounted a comeback bid but ultimately fell short and the Mets won 7-5.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

For the Saturday game, the Mets will be going with lefty Steven Matz. Over his 96.0 innings and 4-7 record this year, Matz has a 3.38 ERA with 85 Ks and 37 BBs.

The Mets’ lead hitter this year is Asdrubal Cabrera, who came into this set on 98 hits, 44 runs, 17 homers and 52 RBI. On Friday, Cabrera had two hits, two runs and an RBI.

Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re rolling out Sonny Gray on Saturday. In his 90.2 innings and 6-7 record this year, Gray has a 5.46 ERA with 85 Ks and 39 BBs.

The Yankees’ lead hitter is Giancarlo Stanton, who came into this series on 103 hits, 58 runs, 23 homers and 55 RBI. In the opener, Stanton had a hit and two RBI.

The Mets are 6-21 in their last 27 in game two of a series and 2-5 in Matz’s last seven starts with eight or more days’ rest. New York is 1-5 in Matz’s last six interleague starts and 0-4 in his last four starts versus the AL East.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are 20-7 in their last 27 Saturday games and 37-18 in their last 55 in game two of a series. The Yankees are also 1-4 in Gray’s last five starts in game two of a series and 0-4 in his last four home starts.

Matz has looked pretty good over his last four starts, with seven combined earned runs and three quality starts in that span. As for Gray, he’s looked pretty ugly all year but did log a quality start in Baltimore his last time out, with three hits and no earned over 6.0 innings. I have no faith whatsoever in Gray this year, but he’s shown he can control bad teams. I’m going to give him a shot and take the Yanks here.
