The Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays square off in game two of their three game interleague set from Tropicana Field as the Battle of Florida resumes on Saturday.
The Miami Marlins will look to build some steam after kicking off the second half on the right foot with a 6-5 win in game one on Friday. Derek Dietrich led the way by going 3 for 5 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs, while J.T. Realmuto went 2 for 4 with a double. Starlin Castro matched that mark by going 2 for 4 as well, while Cameron Maybin added a base hit as well in the victory. Dan Straily got the victory, climbing to 4-4 this season after giving up one run on four hits while walking and striking out three apiece. Adam Conley closed out the 9th for his 1st save of the season. Pablo Lopez will start game two and is 1-1 with a 6.35 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season. This will be Lopez’s first career start against Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Rays will look to bounce back after dropping the series opener on Friday. Mallex Smith led the Rays by going 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs, while Adeiny Hechavarria and C.J. Cron each added an RBI in the loss. Kevin Kiermaier and Joey Wendle each had a double while Carlos Gomez and Jake Bauers each added a base knock as well in the defeat. Nathan Eovaldi gave up one run on six hits while striking out eight over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Diego Castillo ended up with the loss to fall to 1-1 this season. Ryne Stanek will start game two and is 1-2 with a 2.08 ERA and 44 strikeouts this season. This will be Stanek’s first career start against Miami.
Miami is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 6-2 in their last 8 games against the AL East while the over is 10-2 in their last 12 road games. Tampa Bay is 17-5 in their last 22 home games and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. Miami is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Tampa Bay.
Miami could be worth a look after how they came out swinging on Friday. The issue is that after a solid debut, Lopez has allowed five runs in back-to-back starts, ten combined over just 11 innings of work. Tampa Bay, despite dropping the opener on Friday, has been one of the best home teams in baseball over the last couple of months, and should get back to their winning ways with a win on Saturday.
