The Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals square off in the finale of their three game AL Central division set from Kauffman Stadium in MLB action on Sunday.

The Minnesota Twins will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping the first two games of the set including a 4-2 loss in game two on Saturday. Eddie Rosario and Eduardo Escobar each had an RBI with Joe Bauer went 3 for 4 with a double. Jorge Polanco added a base knock as well to cap off Minnesota’s offense in the losing effort. Lance Lynn took the loss, falling to 7-8 this season after allowing three runs on three hits while walking and striking out six apiece in the loss. Jake Odorizzi will start game three and is 4-6 with a 4.54 ERA and 105 strikeouts this season. In his career, Odorizzi is 2-4 with a 4.75 ERA and 34 strikeouts against Kansas City.

Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins - 7/22/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Royals will look to finish off the sweep after their victory on Saturday. Salvador Perez led the Royals with two RBIs, going 1 for 3 at the plate with a home run. Whit Merrifield and Lucas Duda each added an RBI while Mike Moustakas, Alex Gordon and Rosell Herrera added a base hit as well in the victory. Jakob Junis gave up one run on four hits while striking out six over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Brian Flynn got the win to improve to 2-1 this season while Wily Peralta notched his 3rd save of the season. Brad Keller will start game three and is 2-4 with a 3.13 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. This will be Keller’s second career start against Minnesota.

Minnesota is 2-5 in Odorizzi’s last 7 division starts and 9-3 in their last 12 games overall while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games against a right-handed starter. Kansas City is 1-6 in Keller’s last 7 starts and 14-37 in their last 51 home games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Minnesota is 17-36 in the last 53 meetings between these two teams in Kansas City.

As good as Kansas City has played in the first two games of the set, backing the Royals is still hard for me to stomach as Kansas City is probably the worst team in the majors. On the other hand, I got burned with the Twins on Sunday, and with Odorizzi on the bump, I can’t feel any less confident backing Minnesota. Instead, I’m gonna side with the over as I see this total easily hitting double digits.
