The San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies meet Sunday in game two of an MLB doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park.
The San Diego Padres could use a feel good victory here in order to snap a six-game losing streak. The Padres have allowed 29 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 10 games. The San Diego Padres have lost 17 of their last 21 games when allowing more than one run. Offensively, Eric Hosmer leads the Padres with 92 hits and 41 RBI while Jose Pirela and Freddy Galvis have combined for 163 hits and 62 RBI. Tyson Ross gets the ball, and he is 5-8 with a 4.32 ERA and 97 strikeouts this season. Ross is 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA and 18 strikeouts in his career against the Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies look for a spark of consistency after splitting their last 10 games. The Phillies have scored 16 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in four of their last eight games. The Philadelphia Phillies have won five of their last six games when scoring at least one run. Odubel Herrera leads the Phillies with 102 hits and 54 RBI while Cesar Hernandez and Rhys Hoskins have combined for 177 hits and 90 RBI. Nick Pivetta gets the ball, and he is 6-7 with a 4.58 ERA and 113 strikeouts this season. Pivetta is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 20 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.
The Padres are 5-1 in their last 6 second games of a double-header, 25-58 in their last 83 Sunday games and 1-4 in their last 5 vs. National League East. The Phillies are 7-3 in their last 10 during game 3 of a series, 1-5 in their last 6 second games of a double-header and 35-17 in their last 52 home games. The Padres are 4-12 in the last 16 meetings in Philadelphia, 19-41 in the last 60 meetings and the under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Philadelphia.
It's always tough to predict the second game of a doubleheader without knowing the result of the first game, who played, etc. However, backing the Padres is no option in their current form, as they can't score and find creative ways to lose. Ross has an ERA over four both on the road at home. Pivetta has been at his best at home this season and has a Phillies offense that usually puts up big numbers at its home park. I'll take the Phillies and the somewhat reasonable price.
