Headed our way from Kauffman Stadium on Monday, the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals will be kicking off their MLB set.
The Tigers are coming off a weekend series versus the Red Sox. After splitting the first two games, on Sunday Detroit lost 9-1.

Francisco Liriano will be taking the mound for the Tigers on Monday. Across his 79.0 innings and 3-5 mark this year, Liriano has a 4.67 ERA with 63 Ks and 45 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Tigers is Nick Castellanos, who came into the week on 117 hits, 54 runs, 15 homers and 56 RBI. On Sunday, Castellanos had one hit.
As for the Royals, they just finished up against the Twins. KC took the first two games 6-5 and 4-2, then on Sunday the Royals won again 5-3.
Kansas City will be trotting out Heath Fillmyer on Monday. Over his 15.2 innings and 0-1 mark this year, Fillmyer has a 3.45 ERA with seven Ks and eight walks.
Coming out of the week, Whit Merrifield led the Royals on 111 hits, 43 runs and 31 RBI. In the Sunday game, Merrifield went 0-for-4.
The Tigers are 6-14 in their last 20 Monday games and 15-38 in the last 53 in game one of a series. Detroit is also 1-6 in Liriano’s last seven starts and 1-7 in his last eight road starts.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 16-36 in their last 52 in game one of a series and 1-8 in their last nine Monday games. The over is 4-1 in KC’s last five in game one of a series and the under is 9-4 in the last 13 home games versus a left-handed starter.
Aside from seven earned on eight hits in 2.1 innings versus Tampa on July 9, Liriano has been pretty solid over his last five games. As for Fillmyer, he’s only got one start to draw from this year, and in that one he gave up three earned on eight hits in 4.1 innings against the Red Sox. I’m not convinced Fillmyer can get too far into this one, so I’m going Tigers.
