The Line: Los Angeles Angels / Chicago White Sox --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels square off in game one of their four game set from Angel Stadium in MLB action on Monday.
The Chicago White Sox will look to rebound after dropping the rubber match of their three game set against Seattle on Sunday by a final score of 8-2. Tim Anderson accounted for both Chicago runs in the loss, going 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Jose Abreu, Matt Davidson and Adam Engel each added a base hit as well in the losing effort for the White Sox as Chicago cranked out just five hits as a team in the loss. Reynaldo Lopez took the loss, falling to 4-8 this season after allowing five runs on five hits over five innings of work. Lucas Giolito will start game one and is 6-8 with a 6.18 ERA and 63 strikeouts this season. This will be Giolito’s first career start against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to build some steam after avoiding the sweep at the hands of the Astros with a 14-5 win in the series finale on Sunday. Kole Calhoun led the Angels with three RBIs, going 2 for 3 with a home run. Andrelton Simmons, Mike Trout, Justin Upton, Ian Kinsler and David Fletcher all had two RBIs, with Trout, Upton and Kinsler each had a homer with Kinsler going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles as well. Luis Valbuena added an RBI to round out the Angels’ scoring in the win, while Shohei Ohtani added a base hit as well in the victory. Andrew Heaney got the win to improve to 6-6 this season after allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Jaime Barria will start game one and is 5-6 with a 3.55 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. This will be Barria’s first career start against the White Sox
Chicago is 4-0 in Giolito’s last 4 road starts against a team with a losing record and 1-5 in their last 6 games against the AL West while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Los Angeles is 0-6 in Barria’s last 6 starts and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a right-handed starter. Chicago is 3-8 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and 5-21 in the last 26 meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles.
The White Sox have had no luck in Los Angeles for a few years now, and haven’t been very good for much of the season, so the logical pick would be the Angels here. However, the Halos haven’t had any luck in recent weeks with Barria on the mound, as he hasn’t picked up a win in over a month and a half (June 1st). Giolito has been roughed up for much of the year, but he’s allowed two runs or less in three of his last four starts and just one run in his last two starts combined, spanning 13.2 innings of work. If the White Sox are going to steal a game, I would think it would be this one, so I’d take a stab at the White Sox for a small wager or leave this one alone altogether.
