We have the opener of a four game AL West division set coming to us from Globe Life Park on Monday as the Texas Rangers host the Oakland A’s.

The Oakland A’s will be looking to build some steam after winning the rubber match of their three game Bay Area set, taking the finale by a final score of 6-5 in 10 innings against San Francisco on Sunday. Khris Davis and Matt Olson each went 2 for 4 with a pair of home runs, with Davis putting up a team high three RBIs, while Olson hit a pair of solo jacks. Matt Chapman went 2 for 5 with a double and the game-winning RBI in the 10th inning to round out Oakland’s scoring in the win. Nick Martini and Franklin Barreto each had a base hit to cap off Oakland’s offense in the victory. Sean Manaea gave up two runs on four hits while striking out five over 6.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jeurys Familia picked up his first win in an A’s uniform by tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Brett Anderson will start the opener and is 1-2 with a 6.08 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 1-4 with a 6.02 ERA and 40 strikeouts against Texas.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers will look to build some steam after salvaging a win and avoiding the sweep at the hands of Cleveland, taking the finale by a final score of 5-0 on Sunday. Rougned Odor led Texas by going 3 for 3 with three RBIs, while Ryan Rea added a pinch-hit homer for two RBIs to round out the Rangers’ scoring in the win. Elvis Andrew, Jurickson Profar and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each contributed a base hit as well in the victory. Yovani Gallardo got the win after tossing six shutout innings while allowing just three hits en route to the victory. Cole Hamels will start game one and is 5-8 with a 4.36 ERA and 109 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hamels is 3-4 with a 3.96 ERA and 49 strikeouts against Oakland.

Oakland is 4-1 in Anderson’s last 5 road starts, 23-7 in their last 30 games overall and 7-1 in Anderson’s last 8 starts against a team with a losing record while the over is 10-1-1 in their last 12 division matchups. Texas is 2-9 in Hamels’ last 11 home starts and 0-6 in their last 6 division matchups while the over 5-2 in their last 7 home games. The under is 11-3-2 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams.

I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong when I went against Texas on Sunday and they upset the Indians. However, even with Hamels on the mound, I’m not sure how anybody could pass up such a low line with Oakland. The A’s have been one of the hottest teams in the majors over the last month, and while Anderson isn’t a staff ace by any means, the A’s have had success with him on the road and against teams with losing records. Gotta take the value when it’s there and I think it’s written all over Oakland on Monday.
