The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cleveland Indians square off in game two of their three game interleague set from Progressive Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to stay hot after pushing their winning streak to double digits with a 7-0 win in game one that was called in six innings due to rain. Josh Harrison led the way by going 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Gregory Polanco added a two RBI triple and Starling Marte added a pair of RBIs of his own to round out the scoring for the Pirates in the win. Jordy Mercer went 2 for 3 with a double while Colin Moran, Josh Bell and Corey Dickerson each contributed a base hit in the win. Trevor Williams got the win after tossing six shutout innings, allowing just four hits to improve to 8-7 this season. Joe Musgrove will start game two and is 3-4 with a 4.08 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. This will be Musgrove’s second career start against Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians will look to bounce back after being shut out on Monday in the series opener. Michael Brantley, Yandy Diaz, Melky Cabrera and Jason Kipnis each had a base hit as none of the four Indians’ hits went for extra bases in the losing effort. Corey Kluber took the loss, falling to 12-6 this season after allowing all seven runs, with only three earned, on nine hits over four innings of work. Shane Bieber will start game two and is 5-1 with a 3.53 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. This will be Bieber’s first career start against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 11-1 in their last 12 games overall and 8-0 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-1 in Musgrove’s last 6 starts. Cleveland is 64-29 in their last 93 home games and 6-1 in Bieber’s last 7 starts while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the NL Central. Pittsburgh is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I know all good things have to come to an end eventually, and it could very well come with Musgrove on the bump, who has allowed five of more runs in three of his last five starts and allowed seven runs in just three innings in his only career start against Cleveland. However, I’m not leaving this kind of plus money on the table with arguably the hottest team in baseball over the last two weeks. The Pirates just keep putting up crooked numbers while the Indians struggle to put consistent results together. Bieber has allowed four runs in each of his last three starts and I’m expecting it to be four in a row as this surprising winning streak for Pittsburgh continues.
