For the Thursday game, the Diamondbacks will be bringing out RHP Zack Godley. In his 110.1 innings and 11-6 record this year, Godley has a 4.65 ERA with 114 Ks and 57 BBs.
David Peralta had a slim lead on the Diamondbacks’ hitters coming into game three, with 105 hits, 48 runs, 16 homers and 53 RBI. On Wednesday, Peralta logged one hit.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re rolling with Tyler Chatwood on Thursday. Chatwood has 89.1 innings with a 4-5 record this year, logging a 4.84 ERA with 78 Ks and 79 walks.
Javier Baez is the leading Cubs hitter this season on 108 hits, 63 runs, 19 homers and 74 RBI entering Wednesday. In game three, Baez managed a knock in a pinch-hit role.
The Diamondbacks are 19-7 in their last 26 Thursday games and 4-0 in Godley’s last four road starts. Arizona is also 5-0 in Godley’s last five Thursday starts and 6-2 in his last eight starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 40-14 in their last 54 Thursday games and 27-11 in their last 38 in game four of a series. Chicago is 4-0 in Chatwood’s last four starts and 5-1 in his last six home starts.
It’s been a pretty good run of four appearances for Godley, who has given up five earned over his last 18.0 innings. As for Chatwood, he had a couple of rough starts (14 earned in 10.2 innings), but has been okay over his last pair with four earned in 10.1 innings. All things considered, I think Godley will be the better pitcher here. I’ll take the D-Backs.
