The New York Yankees will be looking to keep their momentum going after a series opening win on Thursday. Didi Gregorius led the Yanks by going 2 for 5 with a homer, a double and three RBIs, while Austin Romine added a double and an RBI and Greg Bird and Giancarlo Stanton each put a run on the board as well despite going hitless in the win. Neil Walker went 2 for 4 while Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar, Aaron Judge and Brett Gardner each added base hits as well, with Judge leaving the game due to injury. Sonny Gray got the win to improve to 8-7 this season after tossing five shutout innings, giving up just three hits while striking out five. Luis Severino will start this matchup and is 14-3 with a 2.63 ERA and 152 strikeouts this season. In his career, Severino is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Kansas City.
Kansas City is 6-23 in their last 29 games against the AL East and 14-38 in their last 52 games overall while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games against a right-handed starter. New York is 22-4 in Severino’s last 26 home starts and 54-17 in their last 71 home games while the over is 10-1 in Severino’s last 11 starts against the AL Central. The under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in New York.
Okay, call me crazy, I know Kansas City is one of the worst teams in the majors, and Severino has been one of the league’s best starters this season. But there’s no way I’m laying this kind of juice even with the Yankees. Severino has allowed 15 runs, 14 earned, in his last 15 innings of work covering three starts, including seven runs, six earned in his last start. Fillmyer has been decent as a starter, so it may be worth a punt to try to triple your money on a single game, but Fillmyer struggled in his lone start against an above average offense in Boston, allowing four runs, three earned in just 4.2 innings of work, so the safer bet for this one is probably the over.
