The Atlanta Braves will look to salvage a win after dropping game three on Saturday. Johan Camargo’s solo home run accounted for the lone Braves run in the loss, while Charlie Culberson added a double and Ozzie Albies added a pinch hit in the losing effort. Max Fried took the loss, falling to 1-4 this season after allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven over five innings of work. Sean Newcomb will start game four and is 9-5 with a 3.41 ERA and 102 strikeouts this season. In his career, Newcomb is 0-2 with a 6.19 ERA and 22 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 4-0 in Stripling’s last 4 starts and 22-9 in their last 31 road games while the the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Atlanta is 1-5 in Newcomb’s last 6 starts and 8-3 in their last 4 game 4 matchups while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games against the NL West. Atlanta is 24-9 in the last 33 meetings between these two teams and 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Atlanta.
Newcomb was a bright spot to start the year, but he’s hit a bit of a rough patch, and while Newcomb got the win in his last start, I need to see more than a win over Miami before thinking it’s safe to back him again. I’m not sure that will come in this start, as Newcomb owns an ERA well over six against the Dodgers in his career and this may be the most dangerous Dodgers lineup that Newcomb will have faced to date. Stripling was roughed up in his last start, but the Dodgers have still won his last four starts. While the plus money with the Braves is tempting, the value is with the better team and the low line and that is the Dodgers.
