The Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in game one of a mini two game interleague set from Chase Field in MLB action on Monday.
The Texas Rangers will look to stay hot after completing a surprising three game sweep of the division leading Astros, including a 4-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. Jurickson Profar, Delino DeShields and Ronald Guzman each had a double and an RBI, with Profar being the only one to go 2 for 4 at the dish. Rougned Odor added a double of his own while Robinson Chirinos added a base hit as well to cap off Texas’ offense as the Rangers put up just six hits as a team in the win. Mike Minor got the victory to improve to 7-6 this season after giving up just two runs on four hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Keone Kela had a shaky 9th but closed the door for his 24th save of the season. Martin Perez will start game one and is 2-4 with a 7.08 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. This will be Perez’s second career start against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to stay hot themselves after completing the three game sweep of the San Diego Padres, including a 5-4 win in the series finale on Sunday. Paul Goldschmidt and Nick Ahmed each had a home run and two RBIs, with Ahmed going 3 for 4 at the plate while Goldy went 2 for 4. A.J. Pollock also went 2 for 4 with a solo home run to round out the scoring for Arizona in the win, while Chris Owings added a double and Steven Souza Jr. added a base hit of his own to round out the offense for the D-Backs in the win. Clay Buchholz got the win after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven over 5.2 innings of work to climb to 4-1 this season. Brad Boxberger struck out a pair in the 9th for his 25th save of the season. Robbie Ray will start game one and is 3-2 with a 4.90 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. In his career, Ray is 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA and 5 strikeouts against Texas.
Texas is 4-0 in Perez’s last 4 starts against the NL West and 12-25 in their last 37 series opening matchups while the over is 6-1-1 in Perez’s last 8 starts against a team with a winning record. Arizona is 1-4 in Ray’s last 5 starts and 4-11 in their last 15 home games while the over is 24-7-1 in Ray’s last 32 home starts.
The plus money with the Rangers is tempting considering how Texas looked against arguably the best team in the American League. However, Perez has been wildly inconsistent, giving up four or more runs in four of his last seven starts, including three starts with six or more runs allowed and has an ERA well over six on the road this season. On the other hand, Ray hasn’t been all that consistent himself, giving up four or more runs in three of his five starts this month and has an ERA over eight at home this season. I think this total could easily hit double digits with the pitching matchup alone, so I’ll side with the over in this spot.
