The Cincinnati Reds and the Detroit Tigers duke it out in game one of a mini two game interleague set from Comerica Park in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Cincinnati Reds will be looking to keep the momentum going after winning three straight games to close out their series with Philadelphia, including a 4-0 win in the series finale on Sunday. Scooter Gennett led the Reds by going 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Phillip Ervin and Curt Casali each went 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI to round out Cincinnati’s scoring in the win, while Joey Votto and Mason Williams each went 2 for 4 at the dish. Adam Duvall and Billy Hamilton each had a base hit to cap off the Reds’ offense in the win. Luis Castillo got the win after tossing seven shutout innings while striking out nine and allowing just four hits. Raisel Iglesias picked up his 21st save of the season by closing out the 9th. Homer Bailey will start game one and is 1-7 with a 6.29 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season. This will be Bailey’s second career start against Detroit.

Detroit Tigers vs. Cincinnati Reds - 7/31/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Tigers will be looking to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 11 games following an 8-1 loss in their series finale with Cleveland last time out. Nick Castellanos accounted for the lone Detroit run in the loss, while Niko Goodrum and Jose Iglesias each added a double. Leonys Martin, Ronny Rodriguez and Victor Reyes each added a base hit as well in the losing effort. Jordan Zimmermann took the loss, falling to 4-3 this season after giving up five runs on six hits over just three innings of work. Matt Boyd will start game one and is 5-9 with a 4.53 ERA and 100 strikeouts this season. This will be Boyd’s second career start against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 9-2 in their last 11 games against the AL Central and 1-4 in Bailey’s last 5 road starts while the over is 8-0 in their last 8 road games. Detroit is 1-6 in Boyd’s last 7 starts and 9-25 in their last 34 games overall while the over is 4-1 in Boyd’s last 5 interleague starts. Cincinnati is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

Cincinnati has been playing the better baseball over the last month, but Bailey has been more of a liability than an asset when he’s been on the mound this season.. The Reds also have the better lineup from top to bottom, but we aren’t really getting enough plus money to make it worth taking a shot on Bailey. Boyd has been better, but he also allowed five runs in just four innings in his lone career start against the Reds. Rather than try to pick a side here, I’ll side with the over as the pitching matchup should see this game eclipse double digits.
