Left hander Cole Hamels makes his first start for the Cubs since being traded by the Rangers. Hamels has made 20 starts in 2018 and has gone 5-9 with a 4.72 ERA which is the highest of his career.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have climbed back in to contention in the NL Central and picked up a game in the standings with Tuesday’s victory. Pittsburgh starter Jameson Taillon gave up three runs through seven frames to up his record to 8-8.
The Pirates banged out eight hits and walked three times with Gregory Polanco going deep and scoring three while Francisco Cervelli had two hits with a homer and a pair of RBI’s followed by David Freese with two RB’s and a run.
