We’ve got a marquis MLB matchup coming Friday in the AL, as longtime rivals the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox gear up for game two at Fenway Park.
In game one, the Red Sox jumped out to an early series lead with a 15-7 win, coming back from an early 4-0 deficit.

for the Friday game, the Yankees will be bringing out ace lefty Luis Severino. In his 137.2 innings and 14-4 record this year, Severino has a 2.94 ERA with 157 Ks and 33 BBs.
Leading the way in hitting for the Yanks is Giancarlo Stanton, who came into this set on 114 hits, 65 runs, 24 homers and 64 RBI. On Thursday, Stanton had a homer, two runs, two hits and two RBI.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re rolling with Rick Porcello on Friday. Across 131.2 innings and a 13-4 mark this season, Porcello has a 4.03 ERA with 126 Ks and 33 BBs.
JD Martinez has had a breakout year with Boston, entering this series with 126 hits, 76 runs, 32 homers and 89 RBI. In game one, Martinez had three hits, two runs and an RBI.
The Yankees are 19-9 in their last 28 in game two of a series and 1-4 in their last five Friday games. New York is 7-2 in Severino’s last nine road starts and 38-14 in his last 52 starts.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series and 6-1 in Porcello’s last seven starts. Boston is 7-3 in Porcello’s last 10 home starts and 3-7 in his last 10 Friday starts.
The Yankees need Severino to be at the top of his game for this one, and that hasn’t happened lately—he’s given up a whopping 16 earned over his last three starts and is 0-2 in that time. As for Porcello, he’s been a little unpredictable lately with 12 combined earned in two of his last three (the third was zero earned in Baltimore). I’m not comfortable picking much of anything in this particular series, so I’m staying away. That said, I’m going to count on Severino to pitch like the ace he is and take the Yankees for a game two win.
