For Saturday’s game, the Braves will be bringing out RHP Kevin Gausman. In his 124.0 innings and 5-8 record this year, Gausman carries a 4.43 ERA with 104 Ks and 32 BBs.
Nick Markakis had a slim lead as the top Braves hitter coming into Friday, bringing 130 hits, 61 runs, 12 homers and 67 RBI. In game two, Markakis had one hit.
Over on the Mets’ side, they’re going with Zack Wheeler on Saturday. Over 120.1 innings and a 5-6 mark this year, Wheeler has a 4.11 ERA with 116 Ks and 42 BBs.
In game two, the Mets offense simply couldn’t find their way, which has often been the case this season. The team only managed two hits on the night, one by pitcher Jacob deGrom, who also had the lone RBI.
The Braves are 19-8 in their last 27 in game three of a series and the under is 4-0 in their last four in game three of a series. Atlanta is 5-0 in the last five overall and 24-9 in their last 32 versus the NL East.
Meanwhile, the Mets are 6-13 in their last 19 in game three of a series and 1-5 in their last six Saturday games. New York is also 4-0 in Wheeler’s last four starts and 5-2 in his last seven Saturday starts.
After two rough starts (10 earned in 9.2 innings on 15 hits), Gausman got it back in his last appearance versus Tampa with two earned on nine hits in 7.0 innings. As for Wheeler, he’s sitting on two straight quality starts, giving up two earned on nine hits in 13.0 innings in that time. Call me crazy, but I’m going Mets on a value pick here. Gausman simply gives up too many hits for comfort.
