The St. Louis Cardinals continue their series at the Pittsburgh Pirates in a Saturday MLB matchup.

The St. Louis Cardinals couldn’t control the scoreboard Friday night in a 7-6 loss at Pittsburgh. St. Louis starter John Gant was charged with six runs on eight hits over four frames for a ND with Jordan Hicks getting the loss with a run scoring in the 8th.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals amassed 15 hits and six walks with Matt Carpenter going solo while Jedd Gyorko went 2-4 with a pair of RBI’s and two runs followed by Dexter Fowler and Yairo Munoz who combined for five hits and an RBI each.

The Cardinals have named Austin Gomber as Saturday’s starter at Pittsburgh. Gomber has made 18 appearances (one start) in 2018 and has gone 1-1 with a 3.22 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates needed a big effort at the plate on Friday and got it to outscore St. Louis. Pittsburgh starter Chris Archer was charged with five runs (four earned) on seven hits and four BB through 4.1 frames before Kyle Crick allowed an 8th inning run to get the loss.

The Pirates racked up 12 hits and walked twice with Gregory Polanco smacking a bases loaded triple while Adam Frazier was 3-5 with an RBI and two runs followed by Josh Harrison who drove in a run and scored.

Ivan Nova toes the rubber against the Cardinals for the first time since 2017. Nova comes in off of a 5-4 win versus the Mets with four runs scoring on six hits and three BB over five frames.

St. Louis  are 5-2 in their last 7 overall and over is 6-2 in St. Louis last 8 road games. Pittsburgh  are 16-5 in their last 21 overall and are 16-5 in their last 21 games on grass and are 9-3 in their last 12 home games. St. Louis  are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh and under is 11-4-2 in the last 17 meetings.

I really feel uncomfortable with the pitching matchup but I’ll go with the experienced Nova and the Pirates…
