The San Diego Padres and the Milwaukee Brewers meet in game one of a three game set from Miller Park in MLB action on Tuesday.

The San Diego Padres will look to build some steam after earning a series split with the Cubs following a 10-6 win in the series finale on Sunday. Hunter Renfroe led the Padres by going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Eric Hosmer and Travis Jankowski each had two RBIs with Hosmer adding a triple, while Freddy Galvis and Franmil Reyes each added a solo home run. Cory Spangenberg had a double and an RBI to round out the scoring for San Diego in the win, while Manuel Margot and Christian Villanueva each had two hits with Villanueva contributing a double. Austin Hedges added a double of his own to round out the offense for the Padres in the winning effort. Joey Lucchesi gave up three runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out nine over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Craig Stammen received his 4th blown save of the season but got the win to improve to 5-1 this season. Clayton Richard will start game one and is 7-10 with a 4.99 ERA and 97 strikeouts this season. In his career, Richard is 3-4 with a 4.99 ERA and 39 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will look to build some momentum after failing to complete the sweep at the hands of the Colorado Rockies after a 5-4 loss in the series finale on Sunday. Mike Moustakas and Travis Shaw each his a solo home run while Orlando Arcia added a double and an RBI of his own in the losing effort. Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun each had two hits while Jonathan Schoop added a base hit of his own to round out Milwaukee’s offense in the losing effort. Wade Miley gave up three runs on five hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Corey Knebel took the loss, falling to 2-2 this season. Chase Anderson will start game one and is 7-7 with a 3.65 ERA and 96 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 3-1 with a 3.54 ERA and 38 strikeouts against San Diego.

San Diego is 0-4 in Richard’s last 4 starts and 8-17 in their last 25 road games while the over is 7-2-2 in their last 11 series opening matchups. Milwaukee is 5-2 in Anderson’s last 7 home starts and 21-8 in their last 29 games against the NL West while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. San Diego is 0-5 in Richard’s last 5 starts against Milwaukee.

The Padres earned a hard-fought series split with the Cubs, but that doesn’t mean I’m ready to jump right back on board with San Diego. The Padres have been brutal and have lost Richard’s last four  starts and six of his last seven starts overall. Anderson has been rock solid, allowing two runs or less in nine of his last ten starts, and given that the Brewers are in better form, I think they’re worth the play on Tuesday and to negate the heavy juice I’ll back Milwaukee on the run line.
